When your name is called, we will guide you to the examination room. The dentist and dental hygienist in charge will listen carefully to you, so please share any concerns, no matter how small.

Main items covered in the consultation

  • Medical Questionnaire Review: Based on your completed medical questionnaire, we will confirm details about your current symptoms and medical history.
  • Oral visual examination: Next, the dentist will examine your mouth and check the condition of your teeth and gums.
  • Hearing your concerns: We will also ask in detail about what is currently troubling you and what kind of treatment you would like.
  • Proposed treatment approach: Based on your oral condition and the results of examinations such as X-rays, we will explain the possible treatment options in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Estimated cost explanation: We will also explain, as much as possible, an estimated cost based on the proposed treatment.

Important Aspects of Consultation

  • Accurate Information Provision: Accurate information from patients is essential for appropriate treatment. Please share any concerns, including minor pain or discomfort.
  • Encouragement to ask questions: We recommend addressing any questions or concerns at this stage. The dentist will respond sincerely to your questions.
  • Confirmation of the treatment plan: We will begin treatment only after you are fully satisfied with the treatment plan and costs. In other words, we place the highest importance on your understanding and consent.

Comprehensive Examination | SACHI Dental Clinic

4. Examination: Precise Assessment of Oral Condition

Along with the consultation, we will conduct various examinations as needed to understand your oral condition in detail.

Common Examination Items

  • X-ray imaging: We will take X-rays to closely assess the condition of your teeth and jawbone. This is a very important examination for understanding the progression of cavities and the severity of periodontal disease.
  • Periodontal Pocket Examination: We measure the depth of the groove between teeth and gums (periodontal pockets) to assess the progression of periodontal disease. We use specialized instruments for measurement, which causes minimal discomfort.
  • Intraoral photography: We will take photos with a dedicated camera to keep a record of the condition inside your mouth. This is useful for comparing before and after treatment and for monitoring progress.
  • Cavity Examination: We conduct detailed examinations for the presence and progression of cavities using specialized instruments and lasers.
  • Bite Examination: We check your bite condition and assess for any problems.

Comprehensive diagnosis based on examination results

Based on these examination results, the dentist will make a comprehensive diagnosis of your oral condition. Using those findings, we will develop the most appropriate treatment plan.

5. Explanation and consent for the treatment plan: Treatment we proceed with together

Based on examination results, the dentist will explain the specific treatment plan.

Treatment Plan Explanation Content

  • Current oral condition: Based on the examination results, we will explain in detail whether you have cavities or periodontal disease and how far they have progressed.
  • Required treatment: Next, we will propose what treatment is necessary and explain specific treatment methods.
  • Treatment duration: We will also explain an estimated timeframe for the treatment.
  • Treatment costs: We will also provide an approximate estimate of the costs involved.

Important Aspects of Treatment Planning

  • Ensuring full understanding: We will explain the treatment and costs carefully in clear terms so that you can fully understand. Please feel free to ask any questions.
  • Presenting options: Depending on the case, we may propose multiple treatment options. We will clearly explain the advantages and disadvantages of each so that you can choose the option that is best for you.
  • Informed consent: At our Clinic, we place great importance on “informed consent,” meaning we begin treatment only after you are fully satisfied. Therefore, if you agree to the treatment plan, we may ask you to sign a consent form depending on the content.

6. Initial Visit Costs: Detailed Cost Information

The cost of a first visit varies depending on the examinations and treatment provided; however, as a general guideline, for those with a 30% copayment under health insurance, it is typically around ¥3,000–¥5,000.

Differences between insured and self-pay treatment

  • Insured vs. self-pay treatment: Dental treatment includes insured treatment covered by health insurance and self-pay treatment, which is fully out of pocket. Self-pay treatment may be expensive, so please confirm in advance.
  • Variation depending on treatment: The above is only a guideline. Costs may vary depending on the treatment, so please understand in advance.

Our approach to treatment costs

  • Explanation in advance: At our Clinic, we will explain estimated costs as much as possible before treatment. This helps reduce concerns about expenses so you can proceed with treatment with greater peace of mind.
  • Medical expense deduction: If the medical expenses you paid in a year exceed a certain amount, you may be eligible for a medical expense deduction. Please keep your receipts in a safe place for your tax return.

Advance consultation regarding costs

If you have any concerns about costs, please feel free to ask when making your reservation or when contacting us by phone. Our staff will provide clear guidance.

7. Next Appointment and Payment: For Continuous Treatment

Next Appointment

After consulting with the dentist, we will decide the date and time of your next appointment based on the treatment plan. We will accommodate your schedule as flexibly as possible, so please let us know your preferences.

Payment

At reception, you will pay the initial consultation fee, examination fees, and other charges. If you have any questions about payment methods, please feel free to ask the reception staff.

8. Ongoing visits: To maintain long-term oral health

Treatment for cavities, periodontal disease, and similar conditions often requires multiple visits. Therefore, it is important to continue coming to the Clinic in accordance with the treatment plan developed by the dentist.

Why ongoing visits are important

  • Achieving fundamental treatment: Through ongoing visits, we will support you in preventing recurrence of cavities and periodontal disease as much as possible.
  • Preventing recurrence: In addition, regular maintenance after treatment helps prevent recurrence and maintain a healthy condition.
  • Early detection and early treatment: Furthermore, regular checkups enable early detection and early treatment of cavities, periodontal disease, and other issues.

This kind of ongoing care is a major factor in keeping your teeth healthy throughout your life. At our Clinic, we will continue to support your oral health over the long term even after treatment, so please feel confident in leaving it to us.

9. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What should I do if my child was told they have a cavity at their school dental check-up?2025-04-27T16:29:15+09:00

If your child was told they have a cavity at their school check-up, we recommend scheduling a dental visit as soon as possible. Early-stage cavities can often be treated simply. If left untreated, decay will continue to progress, so early consultation is important. After examining your child’s condition, we will explain the situation and propose treatment options. Also, if you received a check-up form from the school, please bring it to the appointment so we can review it as well. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

What is the difference between insurance-covered treatment and private/self-pay treatment?2025-04-27T12:52:53+09:00

Insurance-covered treatment is for care within the scope defined by the national health insurance system, which reduces the patient’s cost burden. Private/Self-pay treatment allows for more specialized treatments and can accommodate aesthetic requests, but the patient bears the full cost.

What is the difference between ceramic treatment and silver fillings?2025-04-27T16:23:58+09:00

The main differences between ceramic treatment and silver fillings (amalgam) are appearance and material.

  • Ceramic: Close to natural tooth color and aesthetically superior. There is no risk of metal allergies.

  • Silver Filling (Amalgam): Strong and inexpensive under insurance coverage, but visually noticeable and carries a risk of metal allergies. Also, there is a risk of needing re-treatment due to poor longevity.

Which option is better depends on the patient’s preferences and the condition of the tooth being treated, so it will be decided after thorough consultation with the dentist.

What happens if I forget my health insurance card?2025-04-27T12:48:53+09:00

If you do not have your health insurance card or My Number card at the time of your visit, you will temporarily be required to pay the full cost of treatment yourself. However, if you bring your valid insurance card within the same calendar month that you received treatment, we will refund the difference (the insured portion).

Are there less painful treatment methods available?2025-04-27T16:25:59+09:00

To help you keep as many healthy teeth as possible and live happily every day, we actively incorporate the latest equipment and technology to practice precise and safe “minimally invasive treatment.” For example, in cavity treatment, we strive to remove only the decayed portion minimally, preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible. Also, with precise root canal treatment using a microscope, the possibility of saving teeth that previously might have required extraction has increased. Furthermore, to ensure even patients sensitive to pain can receive treatment comfortably, we employ measures such as topical anesthesia, electric anesthesia injectors, and ultra-fine needles to minimize discomfort.
